How to prepare perfectly for your tattoo appointment

Your big tattoo appointment is coming up and you’re wondering: how do I prepare properly? Here are 4 golden rules to follow.

Rule 1: Your skin

Moisturize your skin for a few days beforehand. But very important: please don’t apply cream on the day of your appointment—we’ll take care of shaving professionally on site. And avoid sunburn like the plague, because we can’t tattoo on burned skin.

Rule 2: Your body – your powerhouse.

A tattoo puts your body to work. Make sure you’re well rested. Eat a large, carb-rich meal before your appointment to keep your blood sugar stable. Bring sugary drinks (cola, juice) and snacks (glucose tablets, granola bars) to prevent circulation issues. Water is essential too.

Rule 3: The no-gos – alcohol & drugs.

Avoid alcohol and other intoxicants completely for at least 24 hours—48 is even better—before your appointment. Alcohol thins your blood, which can lead to heavier bleeding during tattooing. That can wash out the ink and worsen the final result. It can also negatively affect healing. We don’t tattoo anyone who’s been drinking—for your own safety.

Rule 4: Your comfort.

Wear comfortable, loose, ideally dark clothing that won’t irritate the area being tattooed and can handle a few ink splashes. Bring headphones, a book, or your tablet. And most importantly: arrive relaxed and on time.

Well prepared? Perfect! Then your appointment will be great. Still have questions? Book your free consultation.
